Glass hair is a smooth, silky, high shine style that gets its name by resembling glass. The style is achieved by using shine and smoothing hair products to create a smooth, straight, and flawless finish. From cleansing to styling here is the 7-step hair care routine for a high shine mane.
In The Shower:
Step # 1 - Cleanse
Wash away impurities and wash in hydration, shine, and smoothness. I have two Amika shampoos I recommend and which one you pick will be based on your hair type and desired results.
Mirrorball High Shine Shampoo: A shine inducing shampoo for fine or medium hair that offers light weight moisture while boosting hair color vibrancy. Click here to shop.
Velveteen Dream Smoothing Shampoo: For all hair types looking to smooth and protect their hair from humidity. If you worry about products weighing your hair down use Mirrorball instead, it's lighter than Velveteen Dream. Click here to shop.
Step # 2 - Condition
Use the conditioner that goes with the shampoo you picked. When you condition you'll want to condition mids to ends and avoid your roots. Putting conditioner on your roots can cause your hair to get oily quicker. I also recommend using a hair mask once a week. The more hydrated your hair is the less frizz there will be. For help picking out a hair mask read my blog post: " Which Hair Mask Is Best For My Hair?"
Step # 3 - Treat
Pairing a treatment with your once a week hair mask will give you even smoother and shinier hair. For glass hair theses two treatments are my favorite.
Flash Instant Shine Mask: From dull to dazzling shine in just 60 seconds. Flash instantly seals the cuticle while softening and hydrating the hair for a silky, smooth finish. Click here to shop.
Smooth Over Frizz Fighting Treatment: Instantly reduce frizz with this 60 second smoothing treatment. Lasts up to 72 hours and is for all hair types looking to smooth over unwanted frizz. Click here to shop.
Out Of The Shower:
Step # 4 - Prep
Always prep your hair with a primer/leave-in conditioner. You will want to pick one that is also a heat protectant if you blow dry or use hot tools. My favorite is Amika's The Wizard Detangling Primer. It is light weight making it hard to over use, a great detangler, reduces frizz, and cuts down on blow drying time. Click here to shop.
Step # 5 - Style
Apply a styling product after your leave-in and before blow drying for styling support. My favorite for glass hair is Amika's Velveteen Smoothing Balm. It tames frizz and locks in soft-smoothness so humidity can't undo your style. The smoothing balm is heat activated meaning you need to blow dry it into your hair in order for it to work. Click here to shop.
Step # 6 - Refresh
Refresh your second day style by adding more shine and anti-humidity protection so your style doesn't frizz out. I also recommend finishing with these sprays after you are done blow drying and using hot tools.
Top Gloss Shine Spray: An ultra high-shine, lightweight finishing spray that gives hair the ultimate glossy finish, fights frizz, and helps keep color vibrant. Click here to shop.
The Shield Anti-Humidity Spray: A lightweight, invisible heat protecting and style extending spray that is clinically proven to protect hair against frizz + humidity for 24+ hours. Click here to shop.
Step # 7 - Preserve
Protect and extend your style by using silk products like a heat less curl set, scrunchies, a bonnet, or a silk pillow while sleeping. All available at the Bold Heart Shop. Click here to shop.
